Neil Gaiman won the Best Novel Hugo for American Gods.

His acceptance speech was the usual "thank you"s, but at the end of the speech he paused, he looked at the rocket like it was the first time he REALY saw it, and said:

"Fuck, I won a Hugo!"

I so wanted to put that in the newsletter. Did you notice that he looked exactly like you'd expect him to look from his books?

Best speech of the night award had to go to Robert Silverberg. I could barely take nots I was laughing so hard.

I ran out of video tape (DAMN, DAMN, DAMN) and didn't get it.

I was however using the zoom trying to find Connie to see how much she was squriming.

Oh, that's wonderful! That's even more amusing than the people who forgot their Hugo on stage a couple of years ago.

Yay! I'm so glad that won!

(Somehow I missed the list of who won and who didn't. I'm not really surprised I missed the list. I was a busy little con bee.)

Damn, he SO deserved it too. That book was one of the best reads I had in years, tasty and rich in a way that this literary gourmand wishes he could some day cook up himself. Except that now he's stolen the exact line *I* would have uttered whilst holding "The Rocket"...if I were ever so fortunate.

How can you say that about a speech that included
the term "heat vision"?!? I've never heard a speech
that referenced heat vision before...

Z

P.S.: Can I still pretend to be shocked that LotR:
FotR
"upset" (heh) "Once More, with Feeling" for
Best Dramatic presentation? %-}

even better was how he won a big award--i think it was the american fantasy award or something--for sandman. and right after he won it, they announced that NEVER again could a graphic novel win the award.
