{snark} on one of my pet peeves...

Asked in a community...
I'm sure this question has been asked before but "I really don't feel like scrolling back through pages and pages of posts."

Then I don't feel like giving you the same answers...

People like that ask waiters to recite the whole menu because they just don't have the time to read it. ;)

That's why I left the menstrual cup community. Took me five years to get sick of it.

Just happened on one of my mailing lists. I recommended the search feature, and pointed out that the most basic search only produced 73 messages, many of which could be filtered out based on the listing.

Otherwise?

Hmmm. Do communities have a search feature for non public posts (thus not crawled by Google)?

Otherwise, a long running community can have thousands of posts. [livejournal.com profile] poor_skills comes to mind, although it is public. OTOH, that's why tags and memories are used - so you don't have to scroll through thousands of posts to find stuff, just a few hundred.

How about totally random answers instead?

Well, that's me told.

I occasionally need the answer to a question quickly. I sometimes, believe it or not, have other urgent things to do. I have used both the search function in various fora and communities and Google itself, and found them on many occasions to be worse than useless unless I happen to hit on the exact form of words contained in the answer. So I have sometimes, with great trepidation, started a new thread with just such a form of words as you quote. I really didn't realise that it was such a very aggravating thing.

In future I just won't bother asking the questions. I'm sorry for having taken up people's time.

There is a difference between "I've looked but cannot find...", "I need this fast...", or even a "Help me, I'm confused..."

and

"I'm to damned lazy to look and I'm telling you I'm to damned lazy to look, so please serve me the information I want..."
