Sounds like somebody just watched Dr Who :)

Yeah, that one kicked ass.

THAT was an incredible episode indeed! I was clinging to DSR the whole time. Amazing what they can do with some plaster statues, a strobe light, perfect music, and David Tennant's charisma!

this season had some really fantastic episodes.....

I don't remember which episode but I think it was Blink made me scream and jump when we watched it....which to me means that it really grabbed me and wrapped me up in the story so very well....

One of my favorite screenwriters was praising "the directorial chops required to shoot a chase sequence starring inanimate objects."

I remember thinking "Steven Moffat did it again". (Check out the miniseries "Jekyll" if you get a chance -- absolutely riveting, beautifully done. You'll probably need to get a torrent, since it may be a little too adult for BBCA, and SciFi is erratic about what it picks up.)

"Jekyll" actually just played on BBCA. Hopefully it is still making the rounds; I didn't watch it originally, but based on your recommendation I'll try to catch it...

And yes, "Blink" was fantastic. I'll be wearing a grove in TiVo rewatching it! :)

Who woulda thunkit... I guess BBCA is getting more flexible these days.

The lead guy in "Jekyll" is rumored to be in the running for the next Doctor. Not sure about the look, but his acting ability is stupendous.

It hit home for me. for much of my early life I was absolutely convince the world worked that way.

(well not that way specifically, but I was convinced for many many years that every time I left a room, everyone in it bacame skeletons and froze in place. They only moved and had flesh when I was in their presence. Some mysterious and undefined force moved them around when I was not there.)

Intervention

I've been meaning to catch up with Season 2 for some time now, and Friday night, my friend staged an intervention, sat me down in front of his 60" TV and made me watch "Blink," which blew me away. Later that evening, when we drove past a building with a lit statue in the middle of the lawn...I actually had a flashback in the form of a delicious little shudder.

[livejournal.com profile] chriso points out this episode must have been espessially scary for London kids.

The montage at the end is no lie. London has statues EVERYWHERE.

Not all of them are pretty. Someof them are darn right scary by themselves.

Note that Moffat also wrote the amazing episode "Girl in the Fireplace" in the previous season. That episode won the 2007 Hugo for best dramatic presentation, short form. I continue to be amazed by the quality of the new series.

He's making a habit of writing amazing Hugo nominee/winning episodes. He may getting his 3rd in Denver next year.

Agreed about this episode. Classic Dr. Who all over, including relatively cheap evil alien villians photographed brilliantly.

And they lived happily ever after.

My one snitpick: if you don't blink but smash the "statue" into little pieces, it's not going to attack you anymore, is it?

There was a line that you can't kill a stone.

Don't Blink or You're Dead.

Sounds like someone has just seen a Doctor Who episode titled "Blink" and what did you think of Ms. Sparrow, she carried the episode long before you even get to see the Doctor.

Yes, indeedy. I first saw that episode a couple of months ago, courtesy of my... er... incredible aerial reception of BBC Three here in California -- and immediately did the happy dance, plus made a note to nominate it for Best Buffy^W^W Short Form BDP Hugo and seek out the Steven Moffat Fan Club.

What I really love is that a few props, about two and a half inexpensive locations, some lovely, imaginative SFnal scriptwriting, and no more budget than they had in Hartnell days has produced the absolutely best Doctor Who episode in years.
