I was posted to NORAD that fateful day, when the light boards lit up, without the exercise tag.

I wasn't scared, somehow I knew it was a major problem with the Shuttle. I ran to the nearest office I knew had a TV to find everybody in shock as the news channel ran and re-ran and re-ran the tape of the shuttle exploding.

I was stationed at Ft. Benning, Ga, and had a training holiday. I rounded up some neo-space geeks and headed down to the Cape. All I remember is saying "that's not right.." Evidently I had to be lead off the beach.
