I've since discovered that, although the image is always up to date, the link wrapped around it just goes to the main site and relies on cookies (set to expire fairly quickly) to figure out where the reader -- not the author -- resides.
You can, however, copy pieces of the query string out of the image's URL and into the link. For example, I'm using http://weatherpixie.com/?place=KSJC to link the image to my local information.
