I am a HUGE Glee fan. It is chock-a-block full of cardboard characters (at least at the outset) and typical high-school situations. It doesn't stray far from those roots (Coach Sue's unexpected tenderness with the Down's Syndrome Cheerio (not saying more to avoid spoilers) notwithstanding). And yet.... the sum of the parts makes for a terrific series. Let's put it this way - I don't watch a lot of TV, but I watch this.
The show-stopper numbers don't really get me - talk about improbable - but they're a nice treat.
What gets me is the sharp sharp dialog, and the ensemble casting. Sure there are stronger members of the ensemble, relatively speaking, but it IS a true ensemble.
