Long story short...

On our last day, at the last place we visited in Yellowstone, I fell and my Nikon D70 took a nose dive and stopped working.

So at Best Buy, on a 24 months, no interest, plan, I purchased a Nikon D300.

I've spent the last couple of weeks learning what it can do.

Here is one of the first shots I took that really shows off it's low light capability:

For the photo geeks:
Shot with available light.
A little stage wash, but mostly the music stand light only.

Nikon D300
Nikor 50mm/f1.8

Exposure time: 1/50
F-stop: 2.5
ISO speed: 2500

Other then then cropping it down a bit, I've done no post processing

Wow! That's really awesome! Of course, I'm speaking from a non-photog-geek platform.

Is it wrong from a music-geek-platform that I'm trying to make out the little black notes on the music? :D

Have I told you lately that I LOVE YOU?!!! <3

What was this show about anyway? I couldn't tell from your flicker set.

Very nice photo. The new camera looks like it delivers great results; too bad about needing to get a new camera due to an accident, though.

I like it. It seems to take great photos. Yesterday, we went to the Birch Aquarium and I learned how to manually focus my camera and bring up the ISO with the flash turned off to take pictures of the fish inside the aquariums. A nice gentleman stopped and showed me how to do it. I'm still learning because this is the first true SLR I've had that wasn't a point and shoot.

Well, when we has money (RSN, really) I wants one of them. (I also wants a 27" monitor, a new Mac, a Cintiq drawing tablet & another two hours daily to keep up with everything I'm trying to keep up with.)

Yeah, I got one just before Denvention, I was very happy to be able to take pix of Kathy Mar's concert without a flash.

The low-light sensitivity was what made me spend way too many $$ to upgrade from the D80. Enjoy!

That's almost the same setup I've been using since January. Except that I use the 50mm f/1.4 lens for everything. (The extra 2/3 of an f-stop really does make a difference.)

I just upgraded to the D700, and OMG! It's the best camera evar! Full 35mm sensor, and no noise until you start to hit about ISO 6400, (It goes all the way down to ISO 25600 — I was taking photos of the stars at night, from a car going 65MPH down the highway. At f/1.4 ISO25600 (1/60s?) The stars came out as pinpoints.)

But yeah, anyway, taking photos with the available light, and not using a flash, is the best way to do things.
