Viva Laughlin...

Just watched the 2nd (and final broadcast) episode of VL.

Like coupling, they took a great british TV concept and missed the heart and soul of what made the orignal a success.

In Viva Blackpool, the musical numbers jumped between characters advancing the characters and plot lines. Letting the actors of whatever their musical talents sing the songs.

In VL, the musical numbers were just that, musical numbers. They did not advance the characters as they often just re-enforced what the audience already knew about the character, did not advance the plot in the least. Worst yet, they were sing alongs with the original track.

Even Hugh Jackman sounded like he was singing along to the car radio.

Yep, I knew we were in trouble when Ripley seemed to start out as an okay guy, rather than the total scroundrel he was at the beginning of Blackpool.

And I suppose I gotta admit; David Tennant spoiled me for any other actor playing Carlisle! ;)

I haven't seen this, but I do know that Americans never get anything right! What a bunch of talentless loosers we are! I blame our obsession with thinness. Hunger kills sense of humor.
