You know, you could build a costume around that...

Glad you can sleep with that thing! I don't think I could. :/

Looks just like [livejournal.com profile] ewhac's model. He didn't have a dramatic improvement, but he's had a steady quality-of-life improvement. He got his in May.

Very Science-Fictiony looking. All you need is a Space Station staff uniform, a headset with all sorts of doohickeys that appear to do interesting stuff, and a background that isn't flowered pillowcases... XD

Technophant!

I had one of those for a while but kept clawing it off in my sleep. Maybe a set of upper straps would have helped?

I'm glad you've got one. My stepfather needed one and never would wear it until the last couple of years. He had strokes because of his sleep apnea and he's a shadow of his former self now.

Good good for you.

I'm one of those people that had an amazing, immediate quality of life change. Sure, it's embarrassing to bring up when you're looking for a con roommate, but consider the alternative.

The only reason I didn't get one earlier: I'd been scheduled for a sleep study, then my (first) husband suddenly died. The last I'd seen of him was on a respirator, so it just seemed too creepy. I'd probably not have had a problem if I'd started on the CPAP beforehand.

I can't imagine sleeping without mine now. Mine's got 10,000 hours on it.

From the picture, I'd adjust the left top strap. It looks like it's riding high, which might explain some of the slippage.

ACK! Am I missing something? I'm guessing from other's comments that you've had problems?

NM. I read your earlier posts. This is what I get for being behind on LJ.
When I saw the photo, I thought you were in the hospital...Oyf.

I'm glad it wasn't that.

I made it 4.5 hours on night 1, 5 hours last night.

The trainers said to keep coming back for different masks and strap set ups.

I'm already feeling better after 2 days.

It's a bit of a learning curve, but it's very very light. So it's not as anoying as it looks.

There is a large number of fans who use CPAP machines*, we could probably do a group entry.

*Alas this seems to be mostly a function of the greying and enlargement of fandom.

This was the beginning of night 2, so I'm still working on the fit. Seeing this picture full size, I could see were I had the straps wrong.

When I return the ramping/training unit, I'm already going to ask for a different set of straps and/or a different mask. I'm not having whistling issues, but I do have leaks that blow onto my eyes, unless I pull the straps tighter then the trainer said they should be.

I'm already seeing some improvement. Not super dramatic, but I did feel less tired yesterday and feel pretty good today.

I'm thinking something from Pournelle & Niven's Footfall

The idea is to help you stay asleep, but it looks like a difficult device to get to sleep in in the first place. How is this thing better than an oxygen tent?

And you realize, of course, that soon you will be suffering from work apnea? :-)

It doesn't fit you right if that's happening all the time.
Have you tried on the nasal pillows yet?
PS--it's disgracefully funny to spook the cats with the Darth Vader mask-voice, too.

It's not just the O2, but the mask sends presurized air in your nose. Forcing it past your most likely partly blocked airways. It happens at night as your tounge and throat muscle relax and close in on each other.

The mask is very light weight and once you get the straps adjusted and get used to it, you don't notice it.

Actually they don't often wire you up anymore. I was borgafied for night with a strap on wrist box and 2 finger tip sensors.

No stink, but irritating as all get out.
