High School Musical is a story of two high school students: Troy Bolton, captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez, a shy transfer student who excels in math and science. Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical. Despite other students' attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella persist and inspire others along the way. High School Musical is a made-for-TV musical, produced and distributed by Disney Channel. It was one of the most successful Disney Channel Original Movies produced, with a sequel and a spin-off confirmed, a Disney-On-Ice tour and a soundtrack that was the most commercially-successful album of 2006.

Stage 1 Children's Theatre is one of the first groups in the USA to produce this musical on stage. Be a part of this wonderful new show! Auditions for will be held Monday, May 21st and Tuesday, May 22nd from 6pm to 9pm in the Newark Memorial High School Theatre at 39375 Cedar Blvd. Newark (click here for directions). This production is open to children ages 6 through 18. Director Belinda Maloney asks interested performers to prepare a song from a Musical of your choice (songs from HSM are OK). Please bring sheet music scored for piano (a pianist will be provided) or you may use a Karaoke style, pre-recorded tape or CD. There will be a cold reading from the script, and please wear comfortable clothing for a short dance routine. Non-traditional casting, no pay, non-equity, and no appointment necessary.

Participation in this educational workshop/production requires a fee of $175 per child if cast in the show ($100 for each additional child in family cast in the show). Also requires parent involvement.
