Just a couple of quick comments.

1) I do enjoy the music and festivities of the day, but I only attend them every 2-3 years.

The crowds are far to big, loud and rowdy for me to enjoy the festivities.

2) My name is O'Halloran, I have no need to wear wear green to prove that I'm irish.

3) I love celtic music, but not what most folks call "irish" music.

It's Not Easy Being Green

Since St. Pat's Day is today, I didn't do anything in class yesterday. We had pi day on Wednesday, and had an "event" then. Instead, our class listened to Altan, I gave them a brief history of why the shamrock is significant, and we learned about the Book of Kells. Then the kids colored Book of Kells Illo's (I picked up a Book of Kells coloring book in 95 when we went to Trinity College). Yeah, I'm a rebel. Whew hoo.

When we were over in Ireland then, Dave's cousins asked why the Americans go overboard on this day. We told them it was a commercial thing, and used cultural heritage as an excuse. They "celebrate" by going to church. It is traditionally a religious celebration and hedonism is not condoned, although I suspect it may have changed since then.

I was going to go up to Dublin today, but I got my exhausted butt outta bed late. It's rare that I get to go to festivals anymore with my schedule.

Tonight we drink Guinness! Probably at home, away from the madding crowds.
