RIP: Cynthia McQuillin 7/25/53 - 1/14/06

Cindy passed away this morning. Dr. James Robinson says she died
peacefully in her sleep. The cause of death is renal and respiratory
failure.

She was 52.

In lieu of a funeral, Cindy wanted to have a memorial filk. This will likely be done at Consonance.

Dr Jane, sweetie, not James.

Saddened by this, she was a nice lady.

Nope ... he's Dr. James now ... by choice since beginning of 2004 I think ...
Gad, this is so so sad, I am quite shocked to see this news, even though I knew Cindy was very sick.

Ah, thanks for that! I didn't know.

Yes, I'm sad too, lovely lady, too, too soon.

Transformation started in 2004, public announcement and offical name change in Jan of 2005.

The just added pic is from 2001, so it's labeled Dr. Jane.

Unlike a certain somebody, I'm leaving stuff before 2005 labeled Jane, stuff after is James. {grin}

That's very fannish, big grin.

And Cindy wouldn't want us all to be sad, she'd want us to remember all the fun times and how talented she was and how great she and Dr James were together.

The look on James' face as I had him and Cindy sign my Official Bootleg Copy* of the Mid-Life Crisis CD was priceless. "But which name do I use?" "Whichever you feel comfortable with." "Well, I recorded it as Jane, so I'll sign it that way."

*These were the no-cover-art, no-disc-printing copies Cindy sold at her table for a while after the original print run was gone. I wound up making my own disc label and jewel case insert with clip art a couple of years later, and brought it to their concert at BayCon last year. They LOVED it...so much so that Cindy actually showed it off to the audience during the set.

JohnO, if you don't mind your LJ being the conduit for the messages of grief and sympathy that will be flowing to Dr James and all those who knew and loved Cindy, I'll add ours here. Simon and I were fortunate enough to spend a little time with Cindy at Consonance a couple of years ago, and she charmed us both. She was a magical, wonderful and big-hearted lady. We saw her happy in the company of Dr James and much found family, and we will carry her in our hearts. Our sympathies to all of you there in the bay area who loved her.

God Bless and Keep Her

Shock and sadness. What an incredible angel has joined heaven's choir! I first met Cindy in 1977 at a tiny SF convention in Lawndate California. Brightest smile and biggest heart of anyone I've ever known. My heart goes out to her family and loved ones.

My respects.

We'll miss her dearly... I wish we had spent more time together. We almost caught her at Further Confusions 2005, but got there a few hours too late for the performance. I wish Ardyn could have met her, she is a serious fan of both their music.

Please convey our sincere condolences to James, from all the Gladneys, and tell him if there is anything we can do to lighten the load we're a phone call away.

(I'll leave our number in a second post, then delete it. You should get it in a separate email.)

We met Cindy and Dr James, then Jane, in, oh, '92? or '93? when they came to the UK as the filkcon goh's, for Fourplay. (The PLOKTA Cabal used to be the Fourplay committee, in an earlier incarnation.)
Although my acquaintance was brief, I thought her a lovely, generous and humorous lady, and am sorry to hear this. If you are passing on condolences, please add mine.
Giulia

Just form this entry with the pictures, it sounds like she was a very sweet and talented woman. It is always sad to lose a loved one.

Hiya John. Sabre here - there will indeed be a WakeSing at Consonance for Cynthia and I am planning on going and singing as is my mom. Also, we are working on a memorial filk for Cynthia at BayCon. Just thought you would want to know. I miss her very very much and while I am glad she is out of pain I am sad that I will never get to sing with her again.
