Just returned from seeing Serenity for the 2nd time.

Still Wow!

Catching little details and making connections.

Saw it with 4 friends (one of whom is on his 4th viewing (and the first time he's paid to see it)).

We had a long email discussion with several of the folks involved in the phone post, it was a misunderstanding, but an understandable one.

As one person put it:
Imagine - fen with passionate feelings suffering from crossed wires.
Who'd have thunk?

Our 3rd viewing will be tomorrow night
(ok, later today, or really very early tomorrow morn. But I digress...),
At the San Jose Camera 12, Saturday Midnight Madness showing.

Cut: One major connection I made

Book may have been an operative.
He knew how the Parliament works and what a operative does.
He also knew the only way to defeat a operative was to believe in something.
To believe in something so strongly, that you break the belief of the operative.

just got back from seeing it ourselves. one of my friends said the same thing, after she had been off to dinner with folks that had seen it. i told her i didn't get that from the film, but that i thought that might have been a possibility.

but, i will say, in all honesty, i'm not sure that i can take seeing it again.

It's a space western. Think of Han Solo with a crew and a few passengers smuggling around a universe that has lots of "border" planets where people are left to colonize without a lot of money and "core" planets that are very Star Trek-y.

The movie has lots of chase scenes and battle scenes. It's violent, but very good.

It's based on Joss Whedon's Firefly tv series that was cancelled by stupid Fox execs that didn't give the show a fightin chance.

Call me crazy ...

I have no desire whatsoever to see this.

I got something of the same thing, if only I could have heard the damned conversation between him and Mal better. It was just as they got to Haven the second time that the movie started having major issues (see my most recent post if you didn't already). I can see the operative from this movie doing something of the same thing, and have to wonder what pushed Book over if that's the case.

Unfortnatuly for you, I think a key bit was in Book's death scene. He wasn't telling Mal to "BELIEVE", he was saying "believe her."

Belive River.
Believe Miranda has the answer.
Believe what you find at Miranda.
Believe the 'verse, HAS to know about Miranda.

The script in the tie-in picture book says:

BOOK
You...It's on you now...all this death, this shit...you have to find a course. This can't mean nothing. River...you have to...

MAL
Come on, keep it up.

Book grabs Mal's face, talks as though replying to something.

BOOK
I don't care what you believe! Just...believe it. Whatever you have to...
