I made our Airline and Car reservations last night, for our Interaction trip.

We bit the bullet and went for comfort over cost and got the deal that [livejournal.com profile] kproche pointed out.

American Airlines, San Francisco to Glasgow (via Chicago), 1st class on the SFO/CHI leg, Business class on the CHI/GLA leg for a total of $4423 for both tickets. "Merely" twice the cost of economy on any airline.

Far better then Virgin's $4k each for Business or British Airway's $16K each for 1st class.

We figure the comfort, especially on the return trip, will be worth it.

The car was a big surprise. Economy size, with Nav system and *Automatic* transmission, for 2 weeks, only $533.
10 years ago we could NOT get a automatic transmission.

Not surprising we got a call from our Credit Card Fraud division confirming we just spent $5K for a overseas trip.

And the "bridge" of the title. Airfare & Car are non-refundable, and we are *still* wait listed for a timeshare & need to find "filler" hotel nights around the time share week.

We do have our reservation for the Marriott during the con.

We've got space...

Hey John, let's talk on Saturday night. Our timeshare way out near Loch Ness sleeps 4 and we have it: July 30 - Aug 6. The property in question is Macdonald Dalfaber Resort (RCI #1848). Not the one we thought we were getting, but worth the price to "throw away" a couple of nights if we get tothe Interthingy early. Our Hilton reservation starts on Aug 3rd, check-out the 9th.

So, we're looking for Edinburg space the 9th - ??, as late as 16th. KNow of anyone going to the Tatoo and has extra space?

Now, I know you're absolutely rolling in cash -- I know I could hardly get through the front door last time I was by -- but do you really want to risk throwing even that much away? ;> ;> ;>

Seriously, trip insurance. Do it now. A very small price to pay for peace of mind on a discretionary outlay of this size. Call it your bridge toll, or perhaps your ferry fee in case the bridge washes out.....

I had no clue that plane tix could cost more than a 4-door mid-size sedan.

Our thoughts too when we saw the 1st class rate on BA.

Admitedly AA & Virgin are not far behind being in the $8-10K range.

Yeah, but you get a nice ride for the coin.

I've done business on VA and BA quite a bit, and I agree, it makes a difference. I did SEA->JFK->Heathrow->Geneva and back, and would have been quite dead otherwise.

On the other hand, I did SEA->SFO->Melbourne in economy because I was able to secure 5 seats across on a 747-400/ER. That's better than business, if you ask me, because you can pop a benadryl and sleep flat.

That was the year I did 130,000 miles :-)

We're NOT jealous!
Have a fun trip.
Drink a toast to our 10th wedding anniversary, since we spent our honeymoon there.
If you meet anyone named Torrance, they're surely related to me.

Intersection was our honeymoon, so it's our 10th Aniversary as well.

Anything like being O'Halloran in western Ireland? (As common as Jones there.)

I don't have the time to look right now, but I suspect you could charter a fairly nice flight to Glasgow for $32k...
