OVFF which I mentioned in a comment in your journal is the grand-parent of filk conventions.
I think I may have made it to a Marcon at sometime in the early 80s. My band of friends went to so many during our college years, I lost track and with time they all blur together.
We lived by the Rule of 6*, if it was within a 6 hour drive, we were at it.
*Rule of thumb in the midwest. Don't hold a convention within 6 weeks of another convention that is within 6 hours driving time.
