I'm a city boy by nature. While I'l love living in the 'burbs and have even done time in the sticks, I often need to return to a city to take it all in.

When I returned from 2 years in Australia. 2 hours from the nearest large town, 5 hours from nearest small city.

One of the first places I visited was Chicago. Downtown, just out side the train station. I took a deep breath and smelled HOME.

In my travels around the world, I've sampled the soul and feel of many cities. From the downtrodden working class Detroit, Chicago's drive, NYC's hustle and bustle, Adelaide's serenity, London's history, Tampa' laid back tension to San Francisco's love.

Why do I say SF's love? Today a friend posted how she walked out of her office and felt the touch of the Goddess.

My view was that it was the City touching her and this is my follow-up.

That is one of the things I loved about working in San Francisco.

Powered by the sea that surrounds it, the restless earth below it and the wind which sweeps above it. It is a living, breathing city. Fully aware of the tiny humans that live and work on and in it. And despite some the bad things we've done to it, it still loves us. Silly city.

Woomera in 1985-88 (27 months)

2 hours N of Port Augusta.

5 hours NNW of Adelaide.

In 1999, we spend a month in Australia, a week for Worldcon and then 3 weeks touring.

I've been to Woomera -- once. :)

I spent a year living a little more than an hour east of Port Augusta.
