Okay, no official announcement but lots of LJ traffic and a very busy 2004 section of their own BBS.

Several folks I know have to make a choice between Fanime and Baycon.

Many are choosing Baycon.

If you like Fanime, but are going to Baycon instead, let Fanime know.

I did.

I pointed out that I had a blast at Fanime.

I totaled how much I spent this year. (Reg, Dealers Room & Hotel Restaurant.)

I mentioned that I was planning on returning with a full weekend membership next year.

I mentioned that I was planning on volunteering.

I mentioned that I was planning on getting room at the hotel.

I made it clear that Baycon was my choice, if they do move to Memorial Day.

That's it, time for lunch

I know exactly what you're talking about it, but I still keep looking at your post and thinking, "Baycon, that would be great on a sandwich."

I shoulda eaten breakfast.

I can tell you with a fair amount of certainty that Fanime will not change the dates. From what I hear, they have already signed a contract with the SJ Convention Center, because they were made a very nice offer.

They did make a small official announcement at the con on Sunday. I saw signs up at the info booth announcing next year's dates.

Pity. I'm not big into anime, but my kids are, and I might have sent them off to Fanime next year, when they're both teens. But I know they won't give up BayCon and the other interesting things that happen there. I certainly won't. What WAS that con com thinking when they decided to go opposite BayCon??

Not entirely a rant -- if someone does have some insight, I'd love to hear it.

There may be some cross-pollination happening over the weekend, since the two sites aren't THAT far apart. But room nights sure aren't going to be doubled, and staff aren't, either.

There's a gaming con that I would have liked to have attended this last year -- but it happened during BayCon. *sigh* The gaming con would have fed one addiction. BayCon feeds that, and so many more...

Of course, BayCon will lose some people to Fanime, just as they've lost some to the gaming con. Everyone loses when this happens.
