johnoAt age 15 a very dear friend was taken aside at filk event (SF music event) and told that while she had lots of enthusiasm, it was best that she didn't try to sing anymore.
For 10 years she didn't sing. She organized and worked filk sings, programming tracks & conventions, she wrote stories and songs, but never sang them herself.
She finally started singing her songs.
Tonight she won the 2007 Pegasus Award for Best Performer.
At the end of her acceptance speech, thanked us for proving that person wrong.
As one voice, we called back "YOU Proved him wrong!".

...and I reckon it's around 10 years over due.
