Explain to me the appeal of this place? I am at a loss to understand it thus far.

Too bad it isn't free. Otherwise I'd join the thing.

Invite codes are coming fast and furious. When my account gets some, I'll pass one on to you.

Did you get my invite? It's free. Free accounts don't get lots of extra features is all.

It's based on the LJ codebase with some arguable improvements.
Run by some ex-LJ folks, who were let go during the last LJ sale.

I don't usually jump on the "anywhere but LJ, but with LJ codebase" bandwagons, but I had a chance to get in early and grab my name.

Huh, I must have missed it somehow. I'll dig through and take a look.

Other than being a blog site, how is it different from what I already have at LiveJournal?

DW is what happens when a former LJ programmer uses LJ's open source code to build his own site. All the basic features of LJ are in place, the look and feel is 90% LJ, and my guess is the main appeals are (a) to be part of something new and (b) it's not run from Russia. And some folks had their LJ slash accounts nuked in a rude way, and are still upset months after they were reinstated. I beta tested it because of (a).
