My childhood is passing away.

Bobby "Boris" Picket of "The Monster Mash", passed away on Wednesday.

and

Sir Graves Ghastly
passed away on Tuesday.

I grew up waiting for Halloween to roll around again, so the radio stations would play "The Monster Mash" over and over.

Every Sat afternoon it was time for Sir Graves Ghastly to scare me when I was little and make me laugh at the dumb jokes when I was older.

That's too bad. I met Bobby in the early 90's at a Famous Monsters convention. He was a really great guy. He performed at the evening show with a "medley of his hit". He was a great performer, and wasn't too bothered by the scream queens they had behind him singing backup that couldn't find the key with both hands and a flashlight. (Ok a little bothered, but he only complained to me.) I wound up gophering on that show and being the basic "girl friday" for the actors/guests. Bobby was a great guy. He made a movie musical that is very Rocky Horror called "I'm Sorry the Bridge is Out You'll Have to Spend the Night". The film didn't do well; maybe the title is a bit long. But he wrote music, and played the Dr. Frankenstein type character. He was kind enough to give me a copy, but haven't watched it in years.

To Bobby "Boris" Picket, may you enjoy your eternal "Monster Mash"

Slight addition to his film. After a check with IMDB, I see that the film was released in '95 under the title "Monster Mash: The Movie". Ok so they shortened the title and worked on the tie-in to the song.

I've always preferred the original, but the parody often rotated on the urban stations during the same season is quite amusing...

"We smoked some hash, we smoked some Monster Hash, from my personal stash, and we all got smashed..."
